For those of you who are not up on what's going on in Kincardine these days, here is a quick synopsis of the waterfront issues.  Some time ago the Parks & Waterfront committee made a recommendation to the Rec Services committee to build a roadway along the boardwalk down to Albert St.  Based upon the amount of email/phone calls the councillors got on this matter they sent the committee back to the drawing board.  The committee then came up with two alternative options, one were there was a two-way road half way, and another that only had a bike path.  A public mtg was held and the overwhelming majority were still opposed to a vehicular road.  In a surprise move the committee made a presentation to council a week ago were they recommended the two-way half-way road.  Council debated and agreed by a 5-4 count.

One NEW councillor was quoted in the newspaper as saying that they were led to believe that the majority of citizens were in favour of the road.  Based on the fact that the vote was so close I took the opportunity to contact the councillor to tell her what I thought the public opinion was - especially at the public meetings.  I then met with the councillor (and another) this weekend at the boardwalk were I went over all the facts as I knew them and to also scope out all the trees that would have to be cut down to accommodate the project.  She has stated that she is keeping an open mind on the matter and would also talk to others on it.

As I stated above, the main reason why the committee was sent back to the drawing board was because of the amount of email/phone calls the councillors received on the matter.  I am once again asking you to take the time to let your opinions be know (whatever they are) by sending a short, polite, and constructive email to the councillors listed belowPlease also pass this on to others who you think may want to comment on the future of their beachfront.  I believe this type of action will have a huge impact on future decisions.
Note: the first 4 names are (4 of the 5) that voted for the roadway.  Pls remember the polite part!
