Finally, some action on the website - it now has a decent introduction. Why did council use The Weather Net (Goderich weather) when Kincardine has its own unique weather station? Go to http://www.pilor.com and see what an interesting and informative website looks like. Council talks about boosting Kincardine so why not use a weather site made in Kincardine and a far better product for Kincardine. Why bury the Airport? It should be a key element in economic development. The Goderich COPA 45 and 50th Anniversary of Homebuilt Aircraft sites are linked from the weather site and designed by a Kincardine resident. And lastly, for now, council members’ names and email addresses should be posted. ‘Contact Us’ is acceptable for some purposes but citizens need to be able to get in touch with individual councillors. It is part of the democratic conversation in the 21st century.

Councillor Randy Roppel says, “I thought we were supposed to be one municipality.” Randy should know we are not one municipality. All that happened was to change names to numbers. Councillors sit around the same table now but the attitudes remain as before. The water issue in Tiverton is a prime example. Randy is not acting in the interest of Kincardine; he acting for some constituents who have a choice that no other citizens have. It is their choice and their consequences to accept. I am sure Randy means well but he is wrong to ask all residents to underwrite Tiverton’s choice. As well, it is misleading to link Scott’s Point and Underwood with Tiverton. The former two have no choice. There are many issues for which Randy could well serve the citizens. There are issues begging to be treated openly and fairly to the betterment of all Kincardine. They are what all councillors should be addressing. But a workable policy for the future of Kincardine will never develop in the emotional atmosphere of Tiverton. It should not be tried for it will lead to muddy thinking.

The residents of Tiverton are as fine as any in Kincardine; it is for them to make their choice. It is not for council to make an inequitable decision just to let Tiverton off a hook of their making.
